Designers shouldn’t be wasting time on details that can be easily achieved using some basic plugins.

So, what do complex B2B products usually contain? Here are few things.

  1. Handling data at Scale
  2. Different types of Data
  3. Accessibility is a concern
  4. Design Libraries (for brand consistency and to not waste time on obvious details)

Do note that, your organization might not give you access to all plugins inside Figma.

Note: I will use you, your team, and your organization almost interchangeably.

Below are my favourite Figma plugins I often use in B2B projects —

  1. Change Text (for similar data types at scale)
  2. Content Reel (for )
  3. Stark
  4. Find/Focus
  5. Bonus(find this at the end)

Let’s Speak about each plugin now.

1. Change Text

Helps change multiple texts in bulk. Below is the way I use it.

Use Case: Let’s say we have different costs in a grid and the user sold few assets. So, we want to change the asset value to $0.00

Select the layers you want to change and go to plugins. [My Assets column before applying]
Update with “New Value”. i.e., $0.00. [My Assets column after applying]

2. Content Reel

A great way to not waste time thinking about what placeholders need to be added to make UI look more realistic.

Helps us not to waste much time and energy in the decision-making of low-priority details.

3. Stark

i) Check Contrast

Helps us to check colour contrast between background and foreground.

Stark -> Check Contrast
1.87:1 ratio is not accessible

Tip: Just make sure your contrast ratio is more than 4.5:1 (for passing accessibility)

ii) Vision Simulator

A great way to get into the shoes of your colour blind users.

4. Find/Focus

Searching assets and layers in “Design Libraries” helped a lot when you are searching assets directly inside the “Figma file with assets”.

Instead of trying to scroll horizontally and vertically to look at every asset(Component, Icon, etc.,), you can simply activate this plugin and search the required Asset(“Layer” in Figma terminology)

Type the layer name here. It automatically

5. Bonus (Unsplash)

This is not helpful if you/your organization have well-defined Photos already. But if you simply have a list of guidelines for photos then Unsplash plugin can help you.

More plugins

I did not mention most popular plugins that might not fit into your organisation’s design guidelines. Eg: “Material Design Icons” plugin is great and can save so much of our time. But this might not fit into your organisation’s guidelines.

Plugins like Blob, Blush, Color Palettes come into this category. These plugins are too specific. Why you need additional shapes, Illustrations and Colours when your organization’ guidelines don’t suggest them(or already have thee assets?). So, I did not give much importance for these plugins in this article.
